That was fun and informative as I'm not a Redleg (King of Battle).

Paul L. Quandt

I agree with the previous comment, even though I was a Redleg, on a somewhat different gun.

The video left out a couple of important details:

"The men whose positions are designated by numbers, are more likely to end up in hands of civilian authorities because of a liberty incident..."

"The Chief of Section routinely refers to his gun crews as 'bitches', as in 'Move yer asses, bitches!'"

Esli

I was watching some reanactors doing cannon crew drill at Fort McHenry a couple of months ago. Half the crew looked to be sixty or better but I was glad to see that the other half were quite young. While I am not a reenactor I think it is very important that people keep the skills alive.

Same idea, but the oldest tank crew I ever saw was driving a well-maintained Sherman around a course at Carlisle Barracks last May. Must have all been in their mid-sixties. They would have had a collective heart attack if I could have taken them for a ride in my Abrams.

@Esli or maybe those old geezers would have been yelling "wheeeee..."

Quartermaster

Esli, I think they would have loved it. I know I would. My NG unit was slated to transition to M-1s when I got out. They would have done so while I was in, but the Brigade commander said they weren't ready for it. We never understood his reasoning, but we didn't have much truck with the man either for other reasons.

How are things progressing in wild and wooly Carlisle, PA?

Esli

I am now in Jerusalem for a year.

@Esli - risk assesss, be safe, write in once in a while so we have a SITREP.

Quartermaster

At least write so we know you're still kicking. Especially when there are serious incidents in the news.
