The site of the damage on the two DDs raises the question of who struck who. Also, who gains from the loss ( however temporary ) of those ships to the fleet? I have my suspicions, but would like to see others' thoughts.

"Are there risks to operations unique to the 7th Fleet area of operations and the Forward Deployed Naval Forces (FDNF)?"

Absolutely. Many areas of restricted maneuvering (the Straits of Malacca is only the most well known) and extremely heavy sea traffic. Upping the number of ships per square mile is going to increase the odds of a collision.

At this point in the investigations we can't rule out the possibility that this is nothing more than a coincidental spike in a random event.

Are other services impacted too? Yes.
