The French Ration Individual Exercise, Menu #6, Ham Salad
This was a surprisingly tasty ration.

Nice review! Merci beaucoup!
As to heating these up, I remember when I was at Knox that "lunch" was served with C-rations. It was a really cool systems they had. The mess cooks used two stainless steel trash cans (VERY bright and well-scrubbed) full of water, set on multi-fuel burners. The water was brought up to boiling.
The cooks then removed the entree cans from the ration boxes and dumped them into one of the trash cans. This heated them up for us. As we went down the line, the cooks handed us each a ration box and we opened up our mess kits and they ladled a random heated entree can onto it. As we passed the other can, we dipped our canteen cups into the water to take some for coffee/tea/cocoa/etc.
After we ate, they dumped some soap flakes into one of the trash cans and you could dunk your canteen cup and mess kit plate into it, swish it around, then go to the other can which had fresh hot water for rinsing. Really nifty system.
The whole affair was operated by 4 guys in a deuce & a half, towing a water buffalo. They had boxes of C-rats inside the truck, along with the two trash cans, burners, jerry cans of fuel, and a large tent in case of foul weather.
One truck carried enough rations fuel and water to feed hot meals to a company-sized unit for at least a day.

It was indeed a good system...even the ham & Lima beans were good heated up!

Thanks for the video. Most enlightening, as usual.
BTW-what is written on your shirt? I could not read all of it.

"No, you're right. Let's do it the dumbest way possible because it's easier for you."

"... two stainless steel trash cans (VERY bright and well-scrubbed)..."
On behalf of all us KPs who sweated to get them that way, you are welcome.
".even the ham & Lima beans were good heated up!"
That is the only way they are edible. They should have had a warning label on them; "do not eat cold-may cause nausea and uncontrollable gagging".

I think my 77-YO father still has a couple of cases of C rats stashed in his cellar. Not like I'm going to taste test them since I know they've been there for at least 40 years.

@CPT Ned. One of your fathers C-rat meals should get reviewed if the cans aren't "puffy."
