Army Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl will serve no prison time for endangering his fellow soldiers when he walked off his post in Afghanistan in 2009 and was captured by the Taliban.
Army Col. Judge Jeffery R. Nance said Bergdahl will be dishonorably discharged and have his rank reduced to private. He was also ordered to forfeit $1,000 of pay per month for 10 months. He issued the ruling Friday at Fort Bragg in North Carolina after nearly two weeks of sentencing proceedings that included testimony by Bergdahl's former comrades.
Before you loop this back to President Trump's statements... while the prosecution asked for 14 years prison, earlier statements from the Army indicated that the prosecution and the Army didn't feel prison was appropriate. Indeed, an earlier investigation recommended against charges at all. That would have given the defense plenty of ammunition to tie up appeals for years.
We need a dishonorably discharged registry like kiddie porn convicts have.

I'm still shocked and think the Judge should be cashiered. I doubt appeals would have gone far, particularly given the guilty plea. The Judge did not do his duty. Period. And it is disgusting beyond words.
