I've long known about Project Tom Tom, an attempt to extent the range of fight type aircraft by hitching a ride on a B-36, but I'd never seen video before.

Haven't seen this one before. I have seen clips of the RF-84 trying to dock & un-dock, with sometimes spectacular results.
FICON didn't work out well either.

The 1940's-1960's must have been a great time to work in aeronautics. So many ideas being tried, research being done and nothing seemed too crazy. So many aircraft companies competing also, which probably helped.
